Hi, I'm Phil Vitale.
I am a career journalist living and working in southwestern Michigan's
Cass County, about half way between South Bend, Indiana and Kalamazoo,
Michigan.
I won't bore you with the details of my career, except to say that since
I graduated from Indiana Univeristy with a bachelor's degree in Journalism
(1977), I have done every job there is to do at a newspaper.
I am currently the editor and publisher of Cass County Neighbors,
a monthly regional newspaper that I started with friend and neighbor Fred
Stein, in March of 2004. I am also the editor of the Birch
Barker (you can see info on these by following the links
on the Home Page).
I live with my wife, Sandy (who has put up with me since 1970!) at one
of the most beautiful places on earth, Birch Lake, where we fish, "toodle"
around in an old pontoon boat (usually with a cold beer in my hand), fish
(serious therapy!), and of course, regularly sail "The Pickle,"
my beloved (and infamous) Melges MC sailboat (hull and sail no. 500).

This is my beautiful granddaughter Morgann Applegate. Click her photo to

annual Halloween bash at TK Lawless County Park.
